Anti Wrinkle Injections

Muscle relaxing injections of Botulinum toxin are used to relax overactive facial muscles and reduce and help prevent the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to reduce excessive sweating in the armpits, hands or feet.

Wrinkles are caused by the skin losing elasticity as you age and the long term effects of muscle contractions from smiling, frowning and laughing. They are also worsened by sun damage and smoking. Anti wrinkle injections are given into the muscles, temporarily putting them to sleep for a period of three to six months. The aim of the treatment being to reduce the appearance or further development of the lines.

What kind of results can I expect from anti wrinkle injections?


After your treatment it will take 2-3 days for the effects to start to be seen reaching its maximum effect at 7-10 days. The treatment may last from to 3-6 months, however with ongoing treatment the effects may last longer. These injections are used to minimise the appearance of worry lines, crow's feet, laugh and frown lines and a further advantage is that your eyebrow area will get a natural lift.

How do anti wrinkle injections work?

A number of muscle relaxing drugs are available under different trade names. They are based upon a purified form of the organism called Clostridium botulinum. These drugs rest the muscles that cause wrinkles, reducing the appearance of frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet.

Are anti wrinkle injections right for me?

Botulinum muscle relaxing injections are not recommended during pregnancy or breast feeding and are not recommended for anyone with a neuromuscular disorder.


What should I expect during treatment with anti wrinkle injections?

The drug is injected into the specific muscle which is to be "relaxed". The Aesthetic Practitioner will determine which muscle should be treated to give the result that you wish to achieve. Most people do not report any pain and the treatment itself only takes a few minutes. Some patients report very minor and temporary discomfort from the tiny needle injections, and any minor redness or swelling near the injection sites will normally dissapear after an hour or so.

It is important to remember that Botulinum toxin-A injections have been safely and effectively used in cosmetic practice for over 10 years and also used medically for many years to relieve chronic muscular spasms and hyperhydrosis.
